I met my new neighbours at ICA today. They are a mother and daughter who are Finnish (mom) and Armenian (daughter). We had a nice chat on the balcony over tea and coffee, and I look forward to getting to know them better over the remainder of my stay.
I did some desk work, and headed out later in the afternoon to visit the Sergei Parajanov Museum. This is a well regarded gallery, showcasing Parajanov’s quirky collages, animated films, and sketches. Having seen his 1969 avant-garde film The Colour of Pomegranate about the Armenian poet Sayat-Nova, I was curious. Once I got past the rather gruff ticket holder, I enjoyed the art!
Next, I had a lentil soup at a café overlooking the Cascade. This was more of a vegetable soup, but a it was tasty nonetheless! I did some people watching and relaxed (and wrote my blog!), while waiting to go to the HighFest performance at the Yerevan State Chamber Theatre at 8:30 pm. (HighFest runs October 1-8… lots to see!) This was a one hour theatrical performance in Russian with English subtitles: a love story beteeen an Englishman and an Indian woman ending in tragedy due to cultural differences. Interesting choice of subject matter for Russians, but the performances and production were very good.
